파도는 끊임없이 움직인다.

밀려오고 부서지기를 반복하지만, 어떤 순간에는 중력을 거슬러 오르듯 힘차게 치솟는다. 이 작품은 바로 그 순간의 생명력에 대한 기록이다.

작품은 수없이 반복된 점들의 축적으로 이루어졌다. 한 점을 찍고, 또 다음 점을 이어가는 과정은 마치 농부가 씨앗을 뿌리는 일과도 같다. 작은 점들은 물과 물감의 농도에 따라 서로 다른 깊이와 결을 만들고, 오랜 시간의 반복 속에서 하나의 거대한 물결로 성장한다.

사실 처음부터 이러한 형상을 의도한 것은 아니었다.

늘 그렇듯 점을 찍으며 화면을 따라가던 어느 순간, 화면 속 물결이 위로 치솟는 형상으로 다가왔다. 펼쳐진 파도의 곡선은 마치 하늘을 향해 날아오르는 날개의 움직임을 떠올리게 했고, 그 생명력은 나에게 새로운 가능성과 희망의 이미지를 보여주었다.

이 작품의 원제는 《독수리 날개치며 올라가듯》이었다.

이는 오랜 시간 많은 사람들에게 위로와 용기를 전해 온 표현에서 가져온 제목이다. 이후 보다 직관적인 소통을 위해 《솟구치는 파도》로 제목을 바꾸었지만, 작품이 품고 있는 의미는 변하지 않았다.

나는 점을 찍는다.

그러나 점은 어느새 선이 되고, 선은 면이 되며, 수많은 시간의 축적은 하나의 거대한 흐름을 만든다.

《솟구치는 파도》는 단순한 바다의 풍경이 아니다.

이 작품은 삶의 무게 속에서도 다시 일어나는 힘, 내면 깊은 곳에서 끊임없이 솟아오르는 생명력, 그리고 자신이 믿는 방향을 향해 나아가는 용기에 대한 이야기이다.

이 물결이 화면 앞에 선 누군가의 마음에도 작은 날개가 되어, 다시 한 번 빛을 향해 나아갈 힘이 되기를 바란다.

Waves are in constant motion.

They advance, retreat, and break apart, yet there are moments when they seem to rise against gravity itself. *Surging Wave* is a reflection on that very moment—a surge of vitality, momentum, and renewal.

The work is composed through the accumulation of countless dots. Placing one dot after another is much like a farmer sowing seeds across a field. Each mark may appear small on its own, yet through repetition and time, they gather into lines, planes, and eventually a powerful wave. Variations in water and pigment create depth, movement, and rhythm, allowing the image to emerge gradually from the process itself.

This form was not planned from the beginning.

As I followed the flow of the work, adding dots day after day, the wave slowly revealed itself. At a certain point, its rising curves began to resemble wings lifting toward the sky. The image evoked a sense of upward movement, possibility, and the life force that carries us beyond our limitations.

The original title of this work was *Like an Eagle Rising on Its Wings*.

Inspired by a phrase that has long offered comfort and encouragement to many people, the title reflected the uplifting energy I sensed within the image. Later, I changed it to *Surging Wave* in order to communicate more directly with a broader audience. Although the title changed, the essence of the work remained the same.

I place dots upon the paper.

Yet the dots become lines, the lines become forms, and accumulated moments become a larger current. What begins as a small gesture gradually transforms into something far greater than itself.

*Surging Wave* is more than a depiction of the sea.

It is a meditation on resilience, the vitality that rises from within, and the courage to move toward the direction one believes in. I hope this wave may become a small pair of wings for those who stand before it, offering strength to rise once again toward the light.
