〈Afterimage of the Room〉: A Record of Survival in Isolation
Afterimage of the Room is a record of self-healing, created while navigating through a tunnel of intense physical pain and mental burnout during the artist's college years. It captures the moment of recovering vitality through the light from the window and the sounds from the radio, amidst the shadows of a wardrobe and bedding that felt like terrifying caves or oppressive flesh. The artist's body, growing like a plant upon the bed, transforms the isolated room from a fearful void into a living space where moss sprouts. This work, where early ballpoint pen line-work meets watercolor surfaces, reveals the very origin of the "performative stippling" and "accumulation of vitality" that define the artist's current practice.
