A storm rages inside a single cup. Dark clouds gather above the rim, lightning strikes down into the water, and waves surge and spill over the edge — a whole tempest contained within the smallest, most ordinary vessel. Painted in white on a deep black ground, this work turns the familiar expression 'a tempest in a teacup' into an image of our inner weather: emotions that may look small from the outside, but are vast and turbulent within. The cup overflows, yet it holds — fragile and enduring at once. Created in mixed media with expressive, gestural strokes, splattered spray, cracked lightning and churning water, leaving the darkness itself as part of the painting.
